The water element is part of the basic foundations of spiritual knowledge in the connection of the four elements earth, air, water and fire. These elements are what make up the energies of Life, and thus us.
Once a person masters all four energies and understands how to operate them within, they learn how to master their life by overcoming traumas with true healing and leadership.
When we are suffering from any health condition, whether it is in the mind, body, or soul, we can look to the elements to help us understand what to examine to strengthen.
Often, it is a combination of working with all the elements to heal, however sometimes it can be a little of one or a lack of it altogether.
The way to figure this out is to study the elements and then meditate or contemplate on these understandings in your own life.
In this, you can intuit your own medicine and be your own healer, which is hopefully what you’re striving for in all areas of your life.
An example is that if you are too much in your water element all the time and find yourself unable to do things because your emotions are always sneaking up on you, it might be that you’re not spending enough time using other elements to bring yourself into balance.
In water element, we learn to focus on emotions in a singular way or motivation in life in various things to do with intentions and growth.
Learning to work with water element can help us learn to reduce dysfunctional emotional imbalances, and connect with it at will and as needed. The goal is for you to get in the driver’s seat.
There are many things we can do to help hone in on water energy and learn to understand how to work with it.
We can learn how to focus our hearts singularly like when we fall in love with something or a person, only internalizing that towards the self instead.
If you find yourself in your emotions too much (water element) to the point you’re not functioning the way you want to be your water energy may be out of whack.
Some symptoms include lacking motivation and general well-being, drowning in overwhelm, or bouncing up and down on the emotional scale feeling out of control more often than not, no direction, purpose or meaning in life, feeling like you don’t belong anywhere or not knowing where you belong.
Emotions are your navigation system, so if they’re out of whack, it makes sense that you feel lost or stuck. But you can learn how to be more conscious of your emotions, what drives them, and how to get control back through various methods that involve exercises for water element and also bringing in some of the other elements for balance.
There is great strength in the magic of learning to be emotionally flexible. You can learn to go with the flow of your emotions and let them guide you but without being out of control or stuck in them.
Learning to work with water is understanding that we cannot stop the flow of water necessarily. We can, but if we do not do it with wisdom then it can be destructive instead of constructive.
The water element helps us to harness the power of water by learning how to let it flow in our lives and how to flow with it. How to guide it in the direction we want to flow in while also being guided by it.
Through using our wisdom we can learn to use our emotions in powerful ways that help our lives instead of drowning in it.
To have this kind of emotional intelligence by learning how to flow and guide our water energy, it puts us in a leadership position in our own lives.
Instead of being tossed around by every emotional thing going on in our lives and in the world, we can learn to use these emotions for information that helps us to improve ourselves and the world.
Water element energy generally focuses on the areas of our lives that involve the heart, emotions, empathy, creativity, intuition, relationships, psychic abilities, and other things related to these areas. To have strong emotional intelligence is to have great power.
The water element is also connected to Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces in astrology.
In the tarot, the suit of Cups is equal to water element energy.
These tools can also help us to ascertain what we need most in our life to take that next step in developing more resilience and stability with our emotional body.
If you’re struggling with being unable to control your emotions in a reasonable way, emotional disorders/illness, anxiety, panic attacks, negative thinking, depression, addiction and similar, learning to bring in more water element energy will help you to regain your connection to your intuitive guidance system and become more productive in your life in powerful ways.
Ask what you need to help you feel more connected in life on a daily basis. What water medicine would your intuitive guidance tell you to utilize in your life so you can reconnect with yourself and others?
What things do you think of that make you feel connection, calm, full, accepting, emotionally stable, and open-hearted, curious, perceptive, or compassionate towards others?
What things come to mind when you think about these questions? Write them down where you can see them daily. Form an affirmation around them.
These help you bring in more water element energies to attain your goals for healing trauma, relationships, and your life.
Do you feed your soul with things that support what you want to be in this world?
Or do you spend time doing things that cause you to betray yourself?
Do you work on projects and activities that allow you to express your true self and creativity, or are you always too busy working for other people and doing things for other people in your life that do not make you feel a sense of fulfillment and expression?
Do you want to do things in life that truly make you feel content and full of purpose but can’t figure out how to make that happen?
What you feed your soul will either help you support your fulfillment in life, or it will constantly lead you away from your purpose and keep you in a constant loop of distraction in overextending yourself for others.
Your soul is here for a reason. It is up to you to seek that out and follow your path, no one can do this for you.
If you’re not truly happy in life, it’s time for you to start examining what gives you purpose and meaning so you can fully live in who you are and what you came here to do and those you came to help.
The beginning of this is understanding your emotions and what you’re truly attracted to in life.
You could have indications of both too little water and too much water in different areas of your life.
If you’re emotionally stable in some ways but over emotional in other ways, these are indications of both too much and too little water. But it is reasonable to expect that our emotions are never 100% balanced all the time.
The idea is not to necessarily balance emotions, but to learn how to use them to keep us on our path, keep ourselves protected, and create healthy relationships with our lives and others in our communities.
The magic is learning to have wisdom with our emotions through getting familiar with our emotions and energy. The goal here would be learning about our beliefs, desires, what we like, what we don’t like, what drives us, what holds us back, and other similar questions that provoke an emotional response for better or worse.
When you understand what makes you tick, you learn how to drive yourself towards what you want in life and how to prevent yourself from veering off into an emotional ditch. You master your emotions and you master your life.
We learn through self awareness how to control ourselves, instead of trying to control others. We learn how to master our lives, instead of letting life master us. With water, it isn’t about having too much or too little of it, but instead, how to utilize what you do have for best results.
Here is a list of possible symptoms that may indicate you need to work on your water element so you can have a more fulfilling, purpose-driven life. It’s important to understand that these are not judgements for any of us to place on ourselves. Instead, these are indicators that we live in a toxic society and this is how it may or may not have affected us.
By learning about the things we may not want to look at about ourselves, we can learn how to fix these things and live the life we want. This isn’t about what others think or a subject of “proper behavior.” It’s important you remind yourself that this is only about becoming a better version of you, however and whatever that means to you.
These are very basic affirmations so the best thing is to work with them and adapt them to your own life. Keep developing them to ones more fit for you.
Sit with them and ask yourself what they bring up for you, or how they might connect to areas where you want to improve.
Keep working with the statements until you develop one where you can feel it in your body when you say it.
Also, getting the body involved with these is a fantastic way to speed up the process.
Work with the goal of trying to get the affirmations to where you can feel them. You may not at first, so keep actively working with it until you do, even if that takes months.
For instance, a very popular thing people are doing now is EFT, which stands for Emotional Freedom Tapping, created by Gary Craig for veterans with PTSD suffering from very intense and debilitating flashbacks or war experiences.
There are many places on the internet to learn more about this such as on YouTube, Facebook and websites from practitioners who specialize in EFT, like Gary Craig himself.
However, there are many other ways you can get the body involved with your affirmations, such as even just reciting them while exercising, using music, or even art. Also, professionals who offer services like EMDR might be helpful. I’d recommend trauma-informed therapists only though, so you know they’re hopefully not damaging you further.
Working with the other elements is also helpful. None of the elements should only be looked at as independent and compartmentalized from each other.
Instead, they should be seen as a system that works together and interchangeably.

This doesn’t replace professional advice and healthcare. This doesn’t mean you don’t need to seek out other help such as professional mental health providers or doctors, etc. This is meant to help supplement any processes, procedures or prescriptions you’re already currently pursuing. Learning to understand your own mind and body is going to greatly help you communicate your needs and desires to the professionals you pay. Which gives you the best health care overall. Intuition can never be underestimated in this part of your life. Ultimately, your health is up to you.
